As the recent PwC survey on PCI DSS illustrated, the end-to-end encryption approach has the greatest potential to reduce audit scope for merchants. By licensing end-to-end encryption technology to POS and ECR manufacturers and eCommerce Payment platform providers, Voltage will ensure that the widest range of merchants will benefit directly with higher security and lower PCI audit costs.

Voltage SecureData Payments POS
Software Development Kit (SDK) and Open License Program

Rapid Implementation of End-to-End Encryption

The Voltage SecureData Payments POS Software Development Kit (SDK) is the first openly available toolkit for enabling end-to-end encryption on POS, ECR, eCommerce and mobile platforms. Implementing end-to-end encryption ensures that PAN data and other types of data can be encrypted from point of swipe to merchant or processor hand-off.

The Payments POS SDK provides access to innovative encryption and key management technologies developed by Voltage Security -- Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) and Format-Preserving Encryption (FPE) -- and associated protocols -- Identity-Based Key Encapsulation and Encryption Protocol (IBKEEP) -- that are already in use at large brand name merchants around the world.

The Voltage SecureData Payments POS SDK is paired with an innovative program for zero-cost licensing and distribution, the Voltage SecureData Open License Program.  The Open License Program is designed for rapid and easy adoption of end-to-end encryption across a wide range of devices and payment platforms including POS, ECR, eCommerce and mobile systems.

Where can the Voltage SecureData Payments POS SDK be used?

  • Point of Sales (POS) Devices
The POS SDK has been designed to provide end-to-end encryption on POS devices - from constrained environments to fully integrated systems. The POS SDK integrates with a TRSM when available but does not require one.
  • Electronic Cash Registers (ECRs)
In addition to POS devices, electronic cash registers (ECRs) and other devices used for card swipe can be enabled for end-to-end encryption with the Payments POS SDK.
  • eCommerce Payment Platforms
The Payments POS SDK is unique in that it can also be used by eCommerce payment platforms and in "Card Not Present" environments. Simple APIs are available that can be used by non-crypto experts to integrate end-to-end encryption directly into the application.
  • Mobile Devices e.g. Apple iPhone
Rapid innovation on mobile devices opens up new opportunities for payments originating on devices such as the Apple iPhone. The Payments POS SDK can be used to encrypt information directly on these devices to ensure end-to-end encryption of cardholder and PAN data.
