Voltage Security Co-Founder and Inventors of Identity-Based Encryption Win 2004 InfoWorld Innovators Award
Palo
Alto, CA., May 24, 2004 -- Voltage
Security Inc.,
a leading provider of secure business communication solutions,
today announced that Drs. Dan Boneh and Matt Franklin are
recipients of the 2004 InfoWorld Innovators award for their
invention of Boneh-Franklin Identity-Based Encryption (IBE).
Dr. Boneh is a board member and co-founder of Voltage Security
and continues to lead the advanced cryptography group at
Stanford University where he is an Associate Professor
of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Dr. Franklin
is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at University
of California, Davis. InfoWorld, a leading business-to-business
technology brand (www.infoworld.com),
announced the recipients of its 2004 Innovators Awards
in the May 24th, 2004 edition of InfoWorld magazine.
The article can be found online at www.infoworld.com/1416.
By using well-known identities
as public keys, IBE eliminates the need for certificates
and greatly reduces the complexity and high cost of administration
usually associated with PKI. Voltage Security delivers
the power and simplicity of IBE as part of a broad platform
of communication security solutions for enterprises to
protect customer privacy, and for compliance with federal
privacy regulations.
“We are extremely honored to have Matt and Dan selected
as InfoWorld Innovators. Their contribution changes the way
we view secure communications, making it extremely easy to
bring confidence in dealing with private customer and partner
information. Already, leading organizations in financial
services, insurance, healthcare, and government are using
the Voltage Security platform to comply with privacy standards,
streamline business processes and secure critical communications,” said
Sathvik Krishnamurthy, president and CEO of Voltage Security,
Inc.
“By cracking the problem of identity-based encryption,
Dan Boneh and Matt Franklin have fundamentally changed the
dynamics of secure communications. No longer will ordinary
users be forced to hassle with the certificates required
by a traditional PKI system, so that people will actually
begin to employ advanced encryption as a matter of course.
By any definition, this is truly an outstanding innovation.
We are proud to have Dan and Matt in our 2004 class of InfoWorld
Innovators,” said Eric Knorr, executive editor-at-large
of InfoWorld.
