Voltage Security Announces Growing Support from
Industry Leaders for Securing Applications and Content
with Identity-Based Encryption
CipherTrust, Fujitsu PST, IMLogic and Siemens lead list of charter
licensees for Voltage IBE Toolkit and Voltage Technology Alliance
Program
San Francisco, CA – RSA Conference — February 14, 2005 —Voltage Security, Inc., a global leader in enterprise privacy management, today announced a growing list of industry leaders who are securing communication applications and content with its breakthrough encryption technology, Identity-Based Encryption (IBE). Voltage also announced the immediate availability of its Voltage IBE Toolkit™, ready for download at http://developer.voltage.com, and the Voltage Technology Alliance Program to provide support to the growing number of partners, developers and licensees. Charter toolkit development partners include: CipherTrust, Fujitsu PST, IMLogic and Siemens AG.
(Editors please note: companion press release “Voltage Security Announces Secure Email Solution for Siemens mobile office@vantage.”)
The Voltage IBE Toolkit is the only commercially available toolkit implementation of IBE and is designed for use by independent and corporate developers building secure applications for government, messaging, collaboration, wireless, document content security and CRM applications.
IBE is a breakthrough encryption technology that enables a simple identity, such as an email, phone number or IP address, to be used as the public-key in a public key cryptographic (PKI) system. IBE eliminates the certificate and certificate management headaches which have prevented PKI from being widely deployed, and provides an easy-to-use and easy-to-deploy PKI alternative.
By using the Voltage IBE Toolkit, applications can leverage the benefits of IBE to secure data quickly and easily. Applications built using the Toolkit seamlessly integrate with the Voltage Enterprise Privacy Management Platform and take advantage of its centralized administration, advanced policy management capability and key distribution architecture. The Voltage IBE Toolkit also enables new IBE applications to integrate easily with existing Voltage applications including award-winning Voltage SecureMail™, Voltage SecureFile™, Voltage SecurePolicy Server™ and Voltage IBE Gateway Server™.
The Voltage Technology Alliance Partner program is designed to help corporate partners, developers and independent software vendors (ISV’s) bring Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) solutions to market more quickly by providing comprehensive technical and tactical business support as needed.
“With its low-overhead and breakthrough ease-of-use, IBE enables a new class of secure applications and enterprise solutions. Corporate developers who innovate with the Toolkit benefit from seamlessly integrated solutions customized to their specific needs, and partners can build new IBE-based solutions for resell into the broader market,” said Sathvik Krishnamurthy, president and CEO of Voltage Security. “We have created a developer-friendly set of API’s, complemented by a support program that is easily accessible and complete.”
“Compliance to state and federal privacy regulations has become a major driver for secure messaging solutions. For many enterprises, secure messaging is rapidly becoming a “must-have” instead of a “nice-to-have”, and enterprises are realizing that they must protect both data-in-transit and data-in-rest. Software vendors, as well as corporate developers need to integrate encryption technology into their applications to ensure best practices around the protection of sensitive information,” said Victor Wheatman, managing vice president and research area director, Gartner, Inc.
In addition, Gemplus (Nasdaq:GEMP) has been an early developer with IBE.
"We have been developing solutions that put the power of Identity-Based Encryption on smart cards and believe the Voltage IBE Toolkit will shorten our development times and enable us to quickly bring innovative, secure commerce solutions to market" said David Naccache, vice-president, research and innovation, Gemplus. "The identity-based solution is ideally suited to the mobile environment, providing easy-to-deploy encryption.”
Charter Toolkit Licensees
"CipherTrust is the leader in e-mail security and offers the IronMail Privacy Architecture to allow customers to pick the most appropriate means of encryption based upon very specific policy triggers," said Dr. Paul Judge, chief technology officer, CipherTrust. "The Voltage IBE Toolkit offers the best way to access state-of-the-art encryption without the need for the overhead of traditional certificate-based approaches to security. IBE combined with CipherTrust's IronMail provides a very powerful solution - a solution that customers need today."
"IMLogic is the leader in managing and securing instant messaging in the enterprise - the world’s fastest growing communication medium. Our customers demand that IM satisfy the same compliance and encryption requirements as e-mail, and we believe that the Voltage IBE Toolkit provides us with powerful encryption capabilities that leverage the speed and flexibility of identity-based encryption”, said Jon Sakoda, CTO and vice president, products, IMlogic, Inc.
Elements of the Voltage IBE Developers Toolkit
The Voltage IBE Toolkit offers a complete solution for enterprises and ISVs interested in adding security into their application quickly and easily:
- Access to standards-based cryptography: The Toolkit implements all major cryptographic algorithms, including AES, 3DES, DSA, and SHA-1. Voltage's implementations have been certified by NIST, and the Toolkit is currently in-process for FIPS 140-2 validation.
- Rapid development through high-level APIs: The Toolkit provides application-level APIs that enable data such as an email or file to be secured in just a few calls. The Toolkit is designed to require no cryptography expertise in order to built robust, secure applications.
- Integration with the Voltage Enterprise Privacy Platform: Applications built using the Toolkit can leverage the key management and policy services provided by the Voltage Enterprise Privacy Platform, enabling solutions to be deployed quickly and with low overhead.
- Source code for advanced development: Source code to the Toolkit is provided to enable custom applications and allow for easy debugging.
The Voltage IBE Toolkit offers support for Windows, Linux, and Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC 2003 platforms, and can be downloaded at no charge from http://developer.voltage.com.
