Voltage Security Selected By AlwaysOn As Top 100 Private Company Award Winner

Voltage Security Wins Award For Innovation and Customer Adoption
for Second Year Running

Palo Alto, CA—June 28, 2005— Voltage Security, Inc., a global leader in enterprise privacy management for digital business communication, today announced that it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the Top 100 Private Company award winners. Voltage was handpicked by the AlwaysOn editorial team based on a set of five criteria – innovation, market potential, customer adoption, media buzz and investor value creation – and was the only encryption company selected in 2005.

The AO 100 was selected from over 1,000 companies, peer-nominated by leading venture capitalists, investment bankers and industry analysts. The AO 100 consists of private companies at all stages of development, from early to late stage.

“Voltage is honored to be chosen as an AlwaysOn 100 Top Innovator company for the second year in a row. This award reflects the growing customer support for Voltage and our breakthrough encryption technology, Voltage Identity-Based Encryption (IBE)”, said Sathvik Krishnamurthy , President and CEO, Voltage Security. “Protecting the privacy of customer information is now a top-of-mind concern for enterprises, and increasingly customers are turning to the Voltage IBE Gateway to provide policy-based encryption to protect the privacy of information flowing into and out of their organizations.”

“The AO 100 companies are shaping today’s web-driven, connected environment,” said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. “We were inundated with nominations from leading companies, many of which I hope will appear on our list next year. My congratulations to each AO 100 winner – these are the companies which we predict will have the greatest market traction, strongest innovation and most game-changing approaches this year.”

The AO 100 will be honored at the AO2005: Innovation Summit at a VIP reception at 5.00pm on July 19, 2005 at the Frances C. Arrillaga Alumni Center on the Stanford University campus in Palo Alto, California

AlwaysOn’s selection of Voltage Security for the AO 100 is the latest in a long line of awards from a wide range of leading industry experts and publications:

About IBE and Policy-Driven Encryption

Voltage IBE is a public key cryptography system that uses common identities (such as an email address or screen name) as public keys, eliminating the need for certificates, Certificate Revocation Lists (CRL) and other costly infrastructure. Voltage IBE results in a solution that is easy to implement and easy to manage, without the overhead and cost inherent in traditional security solutions. Voltage IBE is ideal for use with financial services customers and medical patients who expect communication to be kept private and secure and also want ease-of-use and low-cost. The practical application of Voltage IBE results in a solution that is:

  • Easy to implement and easy to manage – eliminates the overhead and costs inherent in traditional security solutions such as PKI
  • Highly scalable – no storage of keys or messages, and no need to contact online servers; allows the solution to scale dramatically without the need for additional infrastructure
  • Easy to use – no need for end users to worry about keys or certificates

Policy-driven encryption combines the award-winning Voltage SecureMail with the Voltage IBE Gateway to provide encryption/decryption of email at the network “edge”. The Voltage IBE Gateway is used to set specific policies which determine which emails to encrypt/decrypt as they flow in and out of the network. Policy-driven encryption is quickly being adopted by enterprises large and small as it enables that individual email users do not need to make one-off decisions about which specific emails to encrypt. The policy-driven approach is commonly regarded as the most efficient when meeting government-mandated privacy requirements.
