Voltage Wins IAPP Privacy Innovation
Technology
Award
Voltage Identity-Based Encryption Solutions
Recognized For Role In Improving Usability, Affordability,
Competitive Advantage, and Customer Experience
Palo Alto, California–October 25, 2006–Voltage
Security, Inc., (www.voltage.com),
a global leader in enterprise
privacy management, today announced that the International
Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) has recognized
the company and its technology solutions with this year’s
IAPP Privacy Innovation Technology Award.
Voltage
swept the technology category based upon its pioneering use
of breakthrough Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) technology
to deliver data protection solutions. Through Voltage and
its development partners, the Voltage IBE platform is being
used to protect data in motion, at rest and in use by leveraging
the technology, which brings tremendous benefits in terms
of usability and affordability.
“We are honored that the IAPP has recognized Voltage IBE’s role
in enabling enterprise privacy management,” said Wasim Ahmad, vice president
of Marketing, Voltage Security. “Voltage IBE-based solutions are
rapidly becoming a de facto standard in securing business data and email communications
due to the unprecedented levels of simplicity for users, IT administrators
and managers, and affordability and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for
customers.”
Award Designation Overview
The IAPP Privacy Innovation Technology Award goes
to Voltage Security, Inc., for Voltage Identity-Based Encryption™ technology
incorporated into its data protection solutions. Voltage
IBE protects information on PCs (laptops, desktops and mobile
and wireless devices) and in email communications, and enables
compliance with a broad range of privacy guidelines and regulations,
such as PCI, HIPAA, GLBA, PIPEDA and the Data Protection
Act.
Voltage IBE solutions can be used to protect the privacy
of information internally within an organization, such as
HR and financial information; externally with business partners,
brokers and the supply chain to protect company confidential
information, such as pricing and other trade secrets; as
well as with customers to protect personally identifiable
information, such as credit card, Social Security and drivers
license data.
Voltage IBE solutions are in use by more than 250 world-leading
organizations, and by partners such as Integro Insurance
Brokers, Spheris, XL Global Services, Winterthur Life UK
Ltd., Microsoft, NTT Communications, Symantec, Ciphertrust,
Proofpoint and Tablus.
Technology Overview
In 2000,
Dr.’s Dan Boneh and Matt Franklin achieved a mathematical breakthrough
and invented the first practical Identity Based Encryption (IBE) system. Their
scheme uses bilinear mappings, known as Weil and Tate pairings, on elliptic
curves to obtain an algorithm that can be used to turn a simple, well recognized
identity into a public/private key pair.
From the
powerful mathematics, an elegant mechanism was derived for secure business
messaging and communication – online and offline - without the need to
pre-register recipients. (See “About Voltage IBE”) IBE’s
scale and the practical applications developed by Voltage and its partners
are resulting in data security and privacy solutions that are easy to implement
and manage, without the overhead and cost inherent in other methods.
The IAPP
Privacy Innovation Award was presented to Voltage Security Inc. at the IAPP
Privacy Academy 2006 during a special member reception at the Hockey Hall of
Fame in Toronto, Canada. For more information about Voltage, please visit www.voltage.com.
About Voltage Identity-Based Encryption
Voltage
IBE ™ is a public key cryptography system that uses common identities
(such as an email address or screen name) as public keys, eliminating the need
for certificates, Certificate Revocation Lists (CRL) and other costly infrastructure.
Voltage IBE results in a solution that is easy to implement and easy to manage,
without the overhead and cost inherent in traditional security solutions. Voltage
IBE is ideal for use with financial services customers and medical patients
who expect communication to be kept private and secure and also want ease-of-use
and low-cost. Voltage IBE solutions are:
- Easy to implement and easy to manage – eliminates
the overhead and costs inherent in traditional security
solutions such as PKI
- Highly scalable – no storage of keys or messages,
and no need to contact online servers; allows the solution
to scale dramatically without the need for additional infrastructure
- Easy to use – no need for end users to worry about
keys, certificates or multiple inboxes.
