A joke to use in interviews
Back when I was in management I had lots of classes on various aspects of the job. In one of the classes (organizational behavior) we talked about ways to select employees. It seems that interviewing is one of the worst possible ways to do this, but everyone keeps doing it because it’s easier and cheaper than the much better alternatives.
Based on my recent experience, I’m wondering if a particular joke might make a good way to help our interviewing process work better.
I came to think this because every member of our core crypto team understood the joke and thought it was funny while others didn’t get it at all. (This sampling of “other” people may have just included marketing people and managers, but let’s ignore that for now.)
In any event, here’s the joke.
Three mathematicans walk into a bar.
The bartender says, “Are you all having beer?”
The first mathematician says, “I don’t know.”
The second mathematician says, “I don’t know.”
The third mathematician says, “Yes.”
