Rochester Regional Healthcare Association Standardizes on Voltage SecureMail
Palo Alto, CA and Rochester, NY – March 10, 2009 – The Rochester Regional Healthcare Association, an organization representing New York healthcare facilities in nine counties, is standardizing on Voltage Security Inc.’sVoltage SecureMail to protect member email communications.
The agreement protects information transferred via email between health providers, state and local government organizations and payors. The solution combines Voltage SecureMail with the Voltage Security Network (VSN), an on-demand encryption solution delivered as a service (SaaS), in the form of a ‘Connected Gateway’ that dramatically simplifies configuration and management. It includes more than 20,000 initial licenses for enterprise Voltage Security Network and provides association members with on-demand access to encrypted emails, files and documents – without the need for users to sign into multiple accounts.
“Our members are committed to protecting sensitive information,” said Diane Ashley, president & CEO, Rochester Regional Healthcare Association. “Patients, employees, partners and all our stakeholders need to know we are taking serious measures to protect sensitive information. What Voltage delivers is an extremely usable system that’s also affordable, and easily extends secure communications to anybody, anywhere.”
Voltage SecureMail allows member organizations’ email systems to fulfill HIPAA, PCI, and other security and privacy compliance mandates, according to Ashley. However, she notes, “All in all, it’s simply about being responsible with confidential information.”
Assisting members in identifying and responding to the healthcare needs of their communities is a key function of the Association, and helping them standardize the technology platforms used by its members is a natural fit. Among the Association Monroe County member organizations using the Voltage system are University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), Unity Health System, Rochester General Health System, and Lakeside Health System.
The unique secure email product architecture provided by Voltage leverages Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) technology, a breakthrough that enables powerful usability and scalability, as well as lowest cost of ownership. IBE eliminates the complexity of public key infrastructure, and enables a simple identity, such as an email address, to be used to secure communications with no need to pre-register recipients, and no need for recipients to have software on their end in order to receive and reply securely to encrypted messages. The result is a solution that’s easy to implement, easy to manage, and contains very little overhead and cost. And the scalability means that, for the first time, organizations can communicate securely with customers, patients, vendors and providers—literally anyone.
“Voltage SecureMail is as easy-to-use as it gets and delivers on its promises,” said David Mongelli, senior Network Engineer, Rochester General Health System (formerly Via Health). “It gives us a common method of communicating securely and enabling the flow of information within Rochester General’s networks, as well as other association members and patients.”
“Voltage SecureMail delivers a solid email security solution that ensures Unity is able to securely communicate via email with anyone. This product provides a consistent and simple-to-use interface for patients who might receive email communications from multiple members within the association,” said Michael Caccamise, director, Infrastructure and Support, Unity Health System. “That kind of continuity of care is a real benefit.”
“Voltage SecureMail offers URMC a rare combination–peace of mind with ease of use,” said Rick Haverty, director of IS infrastructure at URMC. “It’s an ideal solution for the Rochester Regional Healthcare Association as we all seek to communicate and collaborate securely.”
“Voltage SecureMail is an ideal community solution which allows a secure exchange of confidential information,” said John Schrenker, chief information officer, Lakeside Health System. “The collaboration through RRHA is a great benefit to members in our community.”
Besides highest usability, organizations benefit from the system’s centralized and highly scalable key management. And the Voltage Security Network also allows the Association to communicate securely internally and with business partners and customers on-demand, and with zero management and administrative burden, according to Wasim Ahmad, vice president of Marketing at Voltage.
