HTTP vs. HTTPS

How common is HTTPS? To find out, I did the very unscientific experiment of doing a few SHODAN searches for both HTTP and HTTPS for some of the bigger Internet-using countries. The number of hits for HTTPS as a fraction of the number of hits for HTTP seemed to vary quite a bit. Here's what I found:

US 0.020, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 50 for HTTP

China 0.020, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 50 for HTTP

Japan 0.009, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 111 for HTTP

Germany 0.034, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 29 for HTTP

UK 0.032, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 31 for HTTP

Canada 0.031, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 32 for HTTP

India 0.009, or 1 hit for HTTPS for every 111 for HTTP

So Internet users in Germany, the UK and Canada seem to use HTTPS more that users in either Japan or India do, while both the US and China seemed to be somewhere in the middle.

Hi Luther, I was just wondering if the Voltage IBE toolkit is still available for download? I am a student undertaking a research project into IBE at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and the toolkit looks perfect. I have made multiple applications for access, but have not had any response. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could let me know if it would be possible for me to get access to the toolkit?
    Thank you,
    Karl Reid

    Karl,
I’m afraid that it looks like our toolkit isn’t available any more. The word from our toolkit team is that they’re too busy to offer any kind of support to people that might download it, and they’ve decided that not having it available is better than having it available without support. Your best bet might be Mike Scott’s MIRACL (http://www.shamus.ie/), which includes IBE.

Thanks for the information, Luther, that is a real shame.
