Over 1 billion transistors per person
Sure, "big data" may be one of the up-and-coming trends, but but what about "big hardware?"
According to the book Introduction to Microfabrication, there were about 1019 transistors shipped in 2009, or over 1 billion per person on the Earth. That's a lot of transistors. And the rate at which they're being produced is increasing, isn't it? And they cost less than one ten-millionth of a cent each.
