The dentist’s office effect

I just came across what I call the "dentist's office effect" again. This happens to me when I'm waiting in my dentist's office for my appointment and I end up surprised by the reading material. The selection often isn't the best in dentist's offices, but I often find some sort of magazine about computers to pick up and read. When they were still publishing a printed version, this was often a copy of Computer Shopper. After that publication went to a web-only format, the magazine that I pick up seems to be different every time.

In any case, when I'm looking through whatever magazine that I pick up, I'm often surprised by the advertised price for some sort of computer. No way, I think, that price is outrageous.

Then I notice that the magazine is a year or more old.
